Sustainable Development

Angola LNG approaches our business from the perspective of long-term sustainability, and strives to meet the diverse needs and goals of all stakeholders. Intending to be the leading LNG producer and catalyst for local, regional, and national development, we recognize we must be accountable for the social, economic and environmental impacts of our business, and ensure that we are fulfilling our responsibilities in each of these areas.

People are at the core of our business, be they our customers, employees, our contract workforce, our suppliers, shareholders or the communities in which we operate. By seeking to properly balance the needs and interests of these diverse groups, we aim to create a company which has their genuine respect, support and encouragement. That, in turn, will then enable us to achieve strong results, both financially and from a social perspective. With that solid platform, Angola LNG will grow stronger and better able to meet the future requirements of our stakeholders.

  • Our Commitment

Angola LNG believes that the principles of sustainable development extend beyond the boundaries of our own operations and activities. We have committed to taking a global leadership position on sustainable development and are a supports of various accords. Adhering to these guidelines, in addition to the many others we subscribe to, oblige us to continuously improve the way we operate.

  • Environment
  • A strong ethic of environmental responsibility exists across the Angola LNG group. We understand we have an obligation to minimize the impacts of our operations and manage our performance to the highest environmental standards.

Working in partnership with regulators and the community, we ensure our operations comply with local permits and licenses, and undertake a wide range of projects aimed at protecting and enhancing the ecosystems close to our operations. Environmental management issues such as air, water and soil quality, noise levels, climate change and the health of plant and animal life are subject to constant monitoring to ensure we are fulfilling our responsibilities.

  • Community
  • Angola LNG’s future success is dependent on positive and open relationships with the communities in which we operate. We acknowledge that we have a clear responsibility towards our local communities and are committed to being a good neighbor.

Part of our long-term approach towards community relations is to:

    • pursue mutual benefits for all involved;
    • improve the quality of life for neighboring communities; and
    • work in partnership with the community and government to improve the livelihoods of our neighbors.

Good community relations rely heavily on effective two-way communication. We aim to achieve this by providing accurate and timely information to our stakeholders and by regularly seeking constructive feedback and input back from them. By adopting an accountable, transparent approach we believe we will continue to maintain a good working relationship with communities in Angola.

  • Employees
  • Angola LNG’s employment philosophies reflect our commitment to creating a company and workplace where people both demonstrate, and are treated in accordance with, our core values of:

    • Integrity
    • Protection of People and Environment
    • Professionalism
    • Achievement
    • Community
    • Teamwork

Angola LNG is a company with global impact that values diversity. We are an equal opportunity employer and do not discriminate on grounds of age, ethnic or social origin, gender, sexual orientation, politics or religion. Our workforce, comprising men and women with differing cultural backgrounds, provides a broad range of management experience and insight from which to draw on. We employ people on the basis of job requirements, but seek to give preferential employment to local people where possible.

Our approach as an employer is guided by our Code of Conduct and a number of human resources policies, including:

    • The Promotion of Equality and Opportunity.
    • Harassment and Bullying.
    • Occupational Health and Safety.
    • Training and Development.
    • Whistleblower Protection.

    Training

Training and development is recognized as a vital aspect of our performance. We are committed to training and providing career development pathways for our employees and provide regular performance and career development reviews. Angola LNG also seeks to build the capacity within local communities surrounding its operations through a range of training initiatives. We believe this is one of the most significant contributions we can make to local communities and one which has an everlasting effect.

  • Health and Safety
  • Creating and maintaining a safe and healthy workplace is our number one priority. We strive for continual improvement in our health and safety performance to assist us in achieving our vision 'to operate our businesses in a safe and responsible manner with no occupational illness or injuries to anyone, ever'. This includes all those who are present at our sites – employees, contractors and visitors alike.

Our occupational health and safety policy highlights our commitments to safety, such as:

    • To rigorously identify and control hazards.
    • To strive for continual improvement in our health and safety performance by setting and reviewing achievable targets for the business and individuals.
    • Recognition that everyone's involvement in health and safety is essential.
    • To undertake training and actively motivate all our people to work in a safe and responsible manner.
    • To comply with relevant legislation and strive to exceed community expectations.

We rigorously enforce a comprehensive safety management system and regularly review company practices to ensure they reflect current best practice standards. Structured safety training programs help to build a strong safety culture and assist us in minimizing Lost Time Injuries (those preventing an employee from working on their next scheduled day of work). Fatigue and fitness have been identified as key occupational issues, and workplace programs are in place to reduce these potential risks, contributing to a healthy working environment for all employees and contractors.

  • Partnerships and Sponsorships
  • At Angola LNG, we recognize our responsibility to contribute to the communities in which we operate and we have a genuine desire to establish strong and enduring relationships with our stakeholders.

We firmly believe that to maintain the growth and development of our company in a sustainable manner, we need to work in partnership with our communities. We are pursuing and are very interested in establishing major partnerships and sponsorships to contribute to the growth and development of the country. These are in addition to a range of other smaller sponsorship and philanthropic initiatives we support.
